Mounting Frames
The Samtec connectors are not designed to handle strong mechanical forces. Hence all modules have screw holes to allow a mechanical fixing on so called Mounting Frames. The Mounting Frames are made from MayTec™, 20x20, 4H profiles.
The following figure shows an example of a 2x2 Mounting Frame. On this frame 4 modules can be fixed horizontally aligned. In addition further modules can be stacked on top of these 4 modules. Typical sizes for such frames are 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5.
The key features and advantages of using such Mounting Frames are:
- Mechanical stable prototype setup
- Prototype system becomes portable and can be easily moved from one laboratory desk to another or shipped to a different site.
- Almost full access to the bottom side of the modules
- Prototype system can be easily turned over or put in a vertical position to do measurements
- Complete prototype system can be but vertical on the table to save space and to allow measurements on the top and bottom side at the same time. This might be important to debug for example peripheral modules or to verify supplies.
- Very good DC GND distribution over the complete system through the metal of the frame. This avoids any significant DC GND current flow in cables going from one corner of the prototype system to the other.
- With only four profile lengths 275mm, 400mm, 525mm and 650mm any size from 2x2 to 5x5 and also any combination like 2x3 or 4x5 can be made.
